How to get to the Outaouais

The Outaouais region is located in the southwestern part of the province of Quebec and next door to Ottawa, Canada's capital.

The Outaouais region is easily accessible by various means of transportation. From Montreal, it takes about two hours by car, and Toronto is about five hours away. Ottawa, the neighboring capital, is only a few minutes away. 

Those who prefer other modes of transportation can come by bus from several major cities or by plane via Ottawa Airport, which serves many domestic and international destinations. Once there, there are a variety of transportation options for easily exploring the region.

How can you get to the Outaouais by car?

Highway 15 and then Highway 50 connect Montreal directly to Gatineau in about two hours. From Toronto, it takes about five hours to drive via Highway 401, then Highways 416 and 417 to Ottawa before crossing into the Outaouais region. From Quebec City, it takes about four and a half hours via Highways 40 and 50. 

How do you get to the Outaouais by train?

VIA Rail serves Ottawa with its main stations, Ottawa and Fallowfield, which are located on the Quebec City–Windsor corridor. Direct trains connect Montreal and Toronto to Ottawa, while a connection is possible in Montreal from Quebec City. Once you arrive in Ottawa, you can easily reach Gatineau by public transportation, taxi, or car.

Several companies offer bus service between Gatineau and Ottawa and various cities in Quebec and Ontario, including Montreal and Toronto. These services allow you to travel comfortably while avoiding the hassle of driving. 

How do you get to the Outaouais region by plane?

Ottawa International Airport (YOW), located about 20 minutes from Gatineau, offers many domestic and international flights. Gatineau–Ottawa Executive Airport (YND) is also a convenient option for domestic and business flights.
