The Salon du Livre de l’Outaouais is not confined to the walls of the Palais des congrès de Gatineau. It extends into the lively alleys, legendary bars, and iconic cultural venues of Downtown Gatineau. Here are some events you don’t want to miss!
On Thursday, February 20, à 9 :30 p.m., get swept away by Déchirures vers l’avenir, a free literary show presented at the Minotaure bar. Inspired by the anthology of the same name edited by Jonathan Roy and published by Perce-Neige, this poetic stage production combines rebellion and gentleness in a burst of lucidity and care. With Jessica Gagnon, Christian Roy, Jonathan Roy, and Joseph Edgar, the texts come to life in a whirlwind of sensitive, powerful, and burning words.
The next day, Friday, February 21, at 7 p.m., head to the Ciné+ theater at the Canadian Museum of History for a screening of the film Mille secrets mille dangers, in the presence of author Alain Farah and director Philippe Falardeau. Adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name, this feature film explores the torments of a man on the eve of his wedding. Between anxiety, anger, and painful memories, Alain must survive what should be the happiest day of his life. A powerful work, carried by sharp writing and remarkable cinematography. The screening will be followed by an exclusive interview with the two creators.
Also on February 21, for those who like to combine the pleasures of reading and tasting, head to the À La Dérive Brasserie Artisanale microbrewery at 7 p.m. for the Beer-Book Pairing event. Words pair with foam, stories are infused with hops, and flavors take on literary accents. Hosted by Francis Ouellette, with the participation of Heather O'Neill and other guest authors, this event promises to tantalize both the taste buds and the imagination.
