The cycling network consists of over 350 km of easily accessible trails and paths designed to allow cyclists to travel safely. You can also visit the city by bike, as some routes link various urban landmarks. The trails lead to beaches, parks and must-see tourist attractions, among other sites. Downtown Gatineau’s Culture Trail is a great activity to do by bike with family and friends. Lined with about 30 public artworks, the trail allows you to discover the downtown area from a new perspective as you explore the works of talented and passionate artists. Like a true open-air museum, it features a wide variety of creations in a range of styles, colours and shapes. Keep your eyes peeled: creative hotspots, both big and small, are just waiting to be discovered! If your stroll works up an appetite and you fancy a break, you’ll find many gourmet destinations where you can enjoy a drink and a snack.
On a completely different note, Gatineau Park is a great place to challenge yourself, tackle a few hills and explore steeper trails. This playground, covering more than 361 km² of hills and forests, is sure to surprise you at every turn! Take on the challenge of our “Thighs of steel” circuit and let yourself be amazed by the beautiful trails it has to offer. Designed for both thrill-seekers and cyclists who love relaxing rides, the Outaouais’ green lung transports you into nature, far from the daily grind, where you can move at your own pace. At the entrance to the P2 trail, you’ll find the Relais Plein Air, a true haven of peace where nature, accessibility and a friendly atmosphere come together. Discover mountain bike, gravel and road cycle trails and take advantage of a rental service offering suitable equipment and bikes. Everything is in place to offer you an accessible, safe and memorable experience.
The On the Shores of the Capital route is ideal if you’re planning a family outing and want to have a picnic along the way. We suggest you start your tour on Jacques-Cartier Street: the bike path runs along the Ottawa River and the street is full of restaurants and interesting viewpoints. Part of the route follows the Voyageurs Pathway, a route stretching 30 km along the north bank of the Ottawa River, linking Gatineau to Aylmer which offers are many beautiful lookout points, including a great view of Canada’s Parliament Buildings. Along the way, you can find a shady spot to rest and have a bite to eat on the banks of the river. Fancy lounging on a terrace, enjoying a bite to eat in front of a magnificent view? The National Capital Commission has partnered with local restaurateurs to bring you a fine dining experience on its waterfront lands and urban parks, bordering the Rideau Canal and the Ottawa River. NCC Bistros offer inviting menus in unique destinations accessible by bike via the multi-purpose trails.

Along your route, the Bistro at Rapides-Remic Park is the perfect place to recharge your batteries and admire the Ottawa River. It offers tasty dishes, chilled beers and a range of other appealing options. The bistro and its car park remain open during the NCC’s weekend bikedays.
The Bistro at Patterson Creek Park, situated in the family-friendly Glebe neighbourhood, right next to Patterson Creek, offers a varied menu so you can enjoy a break in a true urban oasis.
The Blair Road Boat Launch patio offers designated relaxation areas featuring Muskoka chairs, table and chair sets, and shaded areas with parasols.
Just a short walk from major attractions, the Bistro at Confederation Park is a great place to relax, set back from the hustle and bustle of the city centre streets. A varied, locally sourced menu awaits you, featuring beers, cocktails, wine, sandwiches, salads and charcuterie platters.
If you run into difficulties or your equipment breaks down, you can stop at one of the seven bike repair stations located at various points along the Gatineau cycling network. These stations are available to cyclists so that they can service, repair or adjust the tire pressure on their bikes. Each station has an air pump equipped with a precision pressure gauge and a smart head that adapts to all types of valves. The station is also stocked with high quality stainless steel tools such as screwdrivers, multiple wrenches and a pair of tire levers, so your bike ride doesn’t have to go down the drain!
