This July 1st, the Gatineau-Ottawa region is buzzing with festivities for Canada Day. Maple leaf flags are proudly displayed, the air is festive, music blares in the streets and fireworks light up the sky. It’s the kind of day you look forward to every summer. Located right next to Ottawa, the Outaouais has a front-row seat for the national Canada Day festivities, which again this year promises a host of free, accessible activities to celebrate in style. Here’s a glimpse of what is awaiting you for a colorful July 1st, right in the middle of the action.
Gatineau and Ottawa celebrate Canada Day side by side. Thanks to their proximity, one event is just a bridge away from the other. In Ottawa, Parliament Hill hosts the big gatherings, including: shows, the official ceremony and activities for all. Meanwhile, in Old Hull, the atmosphere is more local, but just as lively. There are musical performances, family-friendly outdoor activities and numerous gourmet terraces.
Starting at noon, the opening ceremony kicks off the festivities. A number of local artists will perform live on stage to celebrate the Canadian culture. Performances by Garou, Rafaëlle Roy, Alli Walker, Amanda Marshall and Thompson Egbo-Egbo, among others, will run until 1:15 pm at the LeBreton Flats Park.
At 8 pm, the LeBreton Flats Park comes alive for the evening’s big show. Under the lights of the stage and the colors of the flag, the atmosphere promises to be electrifying. A number of well-known artists will be performing: Coeur de pirate, Mitsou, Roch Voisine, TALK, Fredz, Billie du Page, and other guests. Come sing, dance and celebrate Canada amidst the action!
A host of free family activities will be offered in the Capital Region and in the Outaouais. Take a look at the program to avoid missing out!
On Parliament Hill, several activities await you throughout the day. Don’t miss the five impressive beaver inflatables, perfect for an original photo souvenir! Starting at 2 pm, the Royal Canadian Air Force Pipes and Drums will set the Hill abuzz with two performances, at 2 pm and 3 pm. Starting at 4 pm, the skies will come alive with the impressive Snowbirds air show, a highlight that promises to be a sight to behold!

On July 1st, enjoy a free concert by the National Arts Centre Orchestra. A musical rendezvous to celebrate the national holiday in style.
On the other side of the river, the festive day begins at noon in Old Hull. The little ones can have fun in the inflatables, enjoy the giant games, get their faces painted and dance to the sound of the DJ. In the evening, starting at 7 pm, the main stage of Old Hull comes alive with a unique program hosted by Julien Morissette. Opening the evening, discover Naïma Frank, a Montreal singer-songwriter of Haitian origin and a rising figure on Quebec’s alternative R&B scene. She will be followed by the one and only P’tit Belliveau, accompanied by his band for a lively, festive show. Closing the show, the Strumbellas, a renowned indie-folk band, will thrill the crowd with their hits and their brand-new album Part Time Believer. The event is free and open to all!
The celebrations conclude in style with the long-awaited Tim Hortons Canada Day fireworks display. Once night falls, the sky will light up and be visible from both sides of the river. Whether you’re in Ottawa or Gatineau, the show promises to be a sight to behold.
