This July 1st, the Gatineau-Ottawa region is buzzing with festivities for Canada Day. Maple leaf flags are proudly displayed, the air is festive, music blares in the streets and fireworks light up the sky. It’s the kind of day you look forward to every summer. Located right next to Ottawa, the Outaouais has a front-row seat for the national Canada Day festivities, which again this year promises a host of free, accessible activities to celebrate in style. Here’s a glimpse of what is awaiting you for a colorful July 1st, right in the middle of the action.
Gatineau and Ottawa celebrate Canada Day side by side with one celebration just a bridge away from the other. In Ottawa, visitors can enjoy live performances, official ceremonies and activities for all ages. Meanwhile, Old Hull offers a more local atmosphere, with musical performances, family-friendly outdoor activities and a variety of outdoor patios.
Starting at noon, the national noon ceremony kicks off the festivities. On stage, several Canadian artists will perform live to celebrate the country’s culture until 1:30 p.m. at LeBreton Flats Park. Don’t miss performances by Alessia Cara, Loud, Adrian Sutherland, Éléonore Lagacé and other artists from across the country. You can also meet astronaut Jeremy Hansen and athlete Rick Hansen.
At 8 p.m., LeBreton Flats Park comes alive for the evening’s biggest show. Under the stage lights and the colours of the Canadian flag, the atmosphere promises to be electrifying. A lineup of renowned artists will take the stage : Diane Dufresne, Gab Bouchard, Alessia Cara, Lisa LeBlanc, P’tit Belliveau, Pierre Lapointe and Isabelle Boulay.

On Parliament Hill, a variety of activities await throughout the day. Don’t miss the Ceremonial Guard Band performance starting at 10 a.m. Step onto the 360° platform and capture your moment in the spotlight from every angle. From 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and again from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Royal Canadian Air Force Pipes and Drums will fill the Hill with music and energy. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., visitors can meet the world-famous horses of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Musical Ride. Whether on foot or by bike, be sure to take a stroll along the Rideau Canal Parkway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 742 Air Cadets Squadron will also take the stage from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., showcasing their musical talent. Starting at 4 p.m., look to the skies for the spectacular Snowbirds air show – a Canada Day highlight that promises to be an unforgettable sight!

In addition to the national noon ceremony and the national evening shows, LeBreton Flats Park will offer a host of free activities to keep families entertained throughout the day. Enjoy collaborative art projects, interactive games, mural painting, photo booths, and much more. Bes sure to visit Festive Avenue, where you can ride a bubble bike and take on the GoodLife Fitness climbing tower challenge. Unleash your creativity at the giant bubble workshop, where laughter and fun are guaranteed! With something for everyone, these activities offer the perfect opportunity to celebrate Canada Day in a lively and festive atmosphere.

The front of the Supreme Court of Canada building will be buzzing with activities throughout the day. A host of free and unique activities await visitors of all ages! Highlighs include guided tours of the Supreme Court of Canada, a photo opportunity at Canada-Day-themed swing, outdoor yoga sessions with Om Canada!, creative workshops, an introduction to the djembe, a giant bike challenge, improv shows, and much more.
On the other side of the river, the festivities begin at noon in Old Hull. Children can enjoy inflatable games, face painting and dance to the sound of the DJ. In the evening, don’t miss the electrifying performance by Haviah Mighty, the Toronto-based rapper, musician and producer recognized as one of Canada’s top young lyricists. Then dance the night away with Qualité Motel, the high energy artists known for DJ sets, remixes and original productions. They’ll be joined by special guests, Franky Fade and Virginie B. To close out the evening, catch Loud, one of the leading voices in French-Canadian rap. After rising to fame as a member of Loud Lary Ajust, he went on to achieve major solo success with his acclaimed album “Une année record”. The event is free and open to all!
The celebrations will conclude in spectacular fashion with the highly anticipated Tim Hortons Canada Day fireworks display. As night falls, the sky above Canada’s Capital Region will come alive with dazzling colours, visible from both sides of the river. Whether you’re in Ottawa or Gatineau, this unforgettable finale is not to be missed.
