The Outaouais on horseback

Riding proudly through the valleys of the Outaouais on the back of a large white horse, with the wind in your hair and a smile on your face, gives you an indescribable sense of freedom. And you can find it at the many equestrian centres in the region. What’s more, you don’t have to be an experienced rider: several stables offer an introduction to horseback riding before you go galloping away! Here are three places where you can hop into the saddle with confidence.

Captiva Farms: The largest horseback riding farm in Eastern Canada

Captiva Farms is located near Wakefield in the Collines-de-l’Outaouais. The largest equestrian centre in Eastern Canada, it’s home to over 60 horses, which can stretch their legs on 450 acres of land. Young and old alike will enjoy all the activities offered, including pony rides (for ages 3+), farm visits, private parties, riding lessons, and rides for all levels. U-Nick Stable: Canadian horse breeder

Located on Pink Road in Gatineau, U-Nick Stable is both an equestrian centre and a Canadian horse breeder. Offering lessons, excursions, sleigh rides and a boutique, it’s the perfect place to learn to ride or to perfect your equestrian skills.
