On your way to the Pontiac on Route 148, start your day in the village of Quyon, home to the imposing Egan Mill, a historic mill dating back to 1846 that has been restored to its original function as a flour mill. Today, it produces artisanal flour ground on a stone millstone, while showcasing the site’s history, local craftsmanship, and regional products. Stop by the shop, which is brimming with local products carefully selected from regional producers and artisans, then enjoy a lunch break or a gourmet treat at the café. During the warmer months, you can also visit the ice cream parlor.
Built by lumber merchant John Egan, the Egan Mill played an important role in the development of Quyon. After a major fire, it was rebuilt in 1906, resulting in the impressive structure than can still be admired today.
Today, the mill has been restored to its heritage, artisanal, and tourist roles. It’s time to explore the site and stock up on homemade breads and desserts before heading back!
On your way, stop by Ferme Pure Conscience in Clarendon, in the Pontiac where farming is practiced with respect for nature. The undisputed stars of the farm are undoubtedly the yaks! The farm raises a herd of yaks that are grass-fed and graze on pasture.
By appointment, come meet these impressive animals during a farm tour. Take the opportunity to learn about the owners’ farming practices as well as the farm’s other produces, including certified organic eggs.
Keep your eyes peeled for rustic experiences, including country-style dinners. Savor a gourmet meal prepared with ingredients from the fields and local organic produces. It’s the perfect way to treat yourself to a wonderful gourmet experience!
Before heading back, stop by the Ponti-Yak Boutique, where you can discover a variety of farm produces, including yak meat as well as processed and artisanal goods.
A unique agritourism stop to explore the bucolic landscapes of the Pontiac region and meet passionate producers.

Head to Shawville toward the Pontiac Home Bakery, considered by many to be the cream of the crop among bakeries in Eastern Canada. You heard it here first! It’s the perfect spot for a snack or lunch on the go. Let yourself be tempted by the aroma of bread fresh from the oven, the wonderful variety of soups, salads, and sandwiches, the warm bagels, breakfast items, and of course, the famous sweet treats. You’ll find something to satisfy every craving at this cozy, family-run bakery.
I confess that one of my guilty pleasures on the road is stopping to sample local delicacies. It’s a wonderful way to soak up the atmosphere and unique character of every corner of the Outaouais while treating myself to some great food! There are a few charming little spots where you can enjoy your finds, including Léo-Piché Park in Bryson, which offers a lovely view of the river. Unless, of course, you eat all your snacks before you get there … which is kind of my style!
After your meal, time to get moving! Heat to Fort Coulonge at the famous Chutes Coulonge Adventure Park to get your fill of thrills or simply enjoy nature. Set on land where log drivers once worked along the Coulonge River, the site beautifully combines history, nature, and the great outdoors in a setting that’s as impressive as it is enchanting.
Adventure seekers can tackle a tree-top obstacle course, a true balance test, or glide through the treetops on the impressive giant zip liens. Try the ferrata, a route carved into the rock face that lets your climb to great heights using safety equipment. At Chutes Coulonge Adventure Park, the experience combines rock climbing, suspension bridges, and giant zip lines over the canyon and the Coulonge River. A truly spectacular way to explore the landscape!
Three distinct trails are also available. Whether you want to enjoy nature in peace and at your own pace or go for a hike, you’ll find something to suit your needs. You can also bring Fido along, as long as he’s kept on a leash during your visit.
To extend your exploration of the Pontiac, yurt rentals are available through the Chutes Coulonge Adventure Park website, as well as campsites and Vanlife spaces.
