Outaouais, September 2, 2026 — What if the journey began even before hitting the road? That’s what Outaouais Tourism is offering with the Outaouais Express, a brand-new immersive experience that carries visitors throughout the entire region right from the start.
Located at the entrance to the food court at Place du Centre in Gatineau, next to the Outaouais Tourism new temporary information kiosk, the Outaouais Express invites the public to explore the region for free while comfortably seated in a train car, even though it’s stationary. Over seven minutes, passengers are boarding on a journey to discover the Outaouais’ must-see destinations through a combination of video projections, a cozy atmosphere, and sound effects. Spectacular landscapes, nature, the great outdoors, and thrills: a getaway that offers a taste of what awaits them and, above all, makes them want to carry on the adventure in real life!
Entirely decked out in Outaouais Tourism’s iconic pink, the railcar offers a bold nod to the famous Hull-Chelsea-Wakefield Railway, which shaped the region’s history and captured the imagination of tourists for several years. Today, the Outaouais Express reinterprets this legacy in a contemporary, playful, and surprising creation.
Conceived by the creative agency Orkestra, the concept also drew on the expertise of several local businesses that contributed to its design and construction. Unique in Quebec in terms of tourist hospitality, the Outaouais Express turns the first stop into a memorable journey and an invitation to explore the destination.
“The Outaouais is brimming with experiences worth living. With the Outaouais Express, we wanted to offer a welcome that reflects who we are: warm, surprising, and inspiring. In just a few minutes, visitors can experience the thrill of a stay with us and leave with a single desire: to discover the Outaouais!”
— Geneviève Latulippe, CEO of Outaouais Tourism
“It’s a genuine pleasure and a privilege to be able to conceive creative projects like this one and, above all, bringing them to life, thanks to partners like Outaouais Tourism. This journey through our region aboard the Outaouais Express is the result of a wonderful collaboration with numerous artists, artisans, and designers, local and across Quebec. The result lives up to the spirits of this collaboration, and we are extremely proud of it.”
— Alex Van Dieren, Copresident, Orkestra
The project also benefited from the collaboration of Place du Centre, which is hosting the railcar on its premises, as well as the City of Gatineau and the Culture Trail team, who helped incorporate it into the trail with signage guiding the public to the railcar and the tourist information kiosk.
